Hello!
This week has been a week full of surprises for us - from half of our team members getting sick, to lots of changes in leadership and teaching roles, to the threat of a super typhoon that some local coworkers were describing as “Typhoon Katrina.” Despite all these unexpected twists and turns, God has still proved time and time again that he is in control.
In the past, team members have gotten sick before, but although proper precautions were taken such as drinking plenty of water and daily vitamins, somehow, sickness has spread in a rapid and unprecedented way this year. One of the most serious cases was Lydia, who missed the last two days of camp to get some proper rest. As a result, teaching roles were switched and modified every day to accommodate for sicknesses. Though this may seem like an obstacle, it allowed God to work through many of the new members who stepped up to teach classes for the first time. Enoch also attended camp for the middle two days to assist with the main event at the beginning and end of the day, resting in between.
Super Typhoon Nepartak also gave us a bit of a scare this week. Originally, the typhoon was expected to hit Luodong rather directly, where we were holding a high school camp. Later, the typhoon changed its course to Taichung, right where we were holding our camp! However, God has been so, so good to us, as he redirected the typhoon away from both the Luodong camp and the South Taichung camp. As a result, almost all of the kids attended camp on the supposed “typhoon day”! Taitung took a brutal hit so please keep the affected area in your prayers as they rebuild.
We have worked with the church in S. Taichung for 3 years now — their support, experience, and church volunteers were truly a blessing to us as many of us began to feel sick. There were around 100 kids at the camp this week ranging from second graders to seventh graders, and overall were very well-behaved and engaged! Not only were we able to share our testimonies many times during the camp, we were also able to house visit seven families. This was a great opportunity for local church members to meet and build relationships with the parents of the children who attended our camp. We trust that God will continue to work through the church to reach the children and families we were able to meet this week.
During our camp, Peng Fei 阿姨 was also able to hold a parenting class from 2:00 - 4:00pm for three days. It was very encouraging to see parents from this camp and our last camp in N. Taichung come to attend this class.
Please pray for a good rest day — that we may replenish our spiritual, emotional, and physical health as we prepare for our next week in Keelung and Luodong. Thank you for all your prayers and support from all over the world!
